[The handwriting isn't the neatest, but the style is sharp and strong. Unfamiliarity with a quill pen most likely.]
Before heading into the forest:
1. Stick to the paths
• Risk of more encounters if you walk off into the woods directly
2. Try not to travel alone
3. Go during the day
4. Always be ready to defend yourself
[The writing stops. He doesn't know why he even wants to go about the forest like this. Seeing the shore of a lake, he closes his journal and head towards it. Sword, gun, and ax and the animals in tow, sounds like an ideal place to stop for a bit.]

The first thought that went through Paul's head was, Oh, look somebody is taking a stroll through the woods.
The second thought was, I'm going to take his head off with my axe if I don't..... SHIT!
Paul snorts in frustration. Being a lumberjack is hard enough in these woods (extreme weather, vicious and malicious beasts, Mother Nature breathing down his neck constantly, etc.) without the unnecessary hazard of the new comers wondering around in the woods. For o]
Hey pal, you might want to watch where you place your feet out here. I nearly chopped your head off with my axe.

[Shinjiro has enough sense to move, but what the hell? Seriously? And animals were mad at him for just walking through the forest; this guy is chopping down trees like nothing. He's adding that to the journal.]
[5. Look out for lumberjack swings]
[He'll ignore how the animals seem to be in a fit over nearly getting his head cut off.]
Yeah, I noticed. Hey, drop it. [The animals anyway. They fall silent.]
no subject
[Paul turns to the furry creatures who have turned their furious chatter in his direction.]
Yes, I know he's important, and I'm sorry for nearly lopping his head off. Why didn't you guys try to steer him in another direction though. You guys should know what I'm like when I'm in the swing of things.
[Paul returns his attention to the man that stands before him.]
What are you doing out here anyways?
no subject
[Dammit, he shouldn't have stopped to write. The animals actually didn't know what to say, but it wasn't outside of their tale to be unattentive unfortunately.]
[Paul's question has Shinjiro shake his head.]
Dunno. I didn't feel like settling in the town so I left.

[He points behind himself, but his eyes are calmly locked on the man that stands before him. Paul sizes up Aragaki, debating whether or not to pitch a job at his lumber camp to him.]
Hey, which fairytale are you from? Its name should be on the spine of your book?
no subject
[Being sized up by a large man like John is... weird. He doesn't know how else to describe it, but that basically summed it up. Shinjiro shakes his head.]
All that's written on the spine is 'Older Brother'. Is the title written at the bottom or something? [Older Brother isn't a jumping point. Too many stories with brothers. Not much else for a hint besides the animals.]

ANYONE WHO DOESN'T KNOW THIS SHIT IS AN IDIOT AND DESERVES TO GET EATEN BY WHATEVER CREATURE STUMBLES UPON THEIR SORRY CARCASS.

I KNOW THAT A LOT OF YOU HUMANS CAN'T DEAL WITH ANYTHING STRONGER THAN A SQUEAKBEAST, BUT I'M PRETTY SURE SELF-PRESERVATION IS PROGRAMMED *SOMEWHERE* IN THOSE THINK PANS OF YOURS.
no subject
[Seriously, where does this person come from and how hard is that shit to understand?]
A squeakbeast? You mean a mouse?
no subject
ONE OF YOUR HUMAN MOUSES.
THAT'S WHAT I MEANT.

What's normal in your forests?
no subject
THAT'S NOT COUNTING ANY LUSUS THAT HAS A HIVE OUT IN THERE.
THEN AGAIN, ANY OF THOSE BEASTS I JUST MENTIONED COULD ALSO BE OUT ON THE ALTERNIAN PLAINS, NOT NECESSARILY LIMITED TO THE FORESTS.
no subject
[And with the alternate names, could say he hasn't heard of any of them.]
They could all be here and then some though.

WHICH IS WHY IT'S JUST COMMON SENSE FOR YOU TO BE CAREFUL WHEN TRAVELING ANYWHERE THAT ISN'T A SETTLED POPULATION!
