Once upon a time...

[ For the residents of Märchenstraße, and all the land surrounding it, the eighth of December was a day to look forward to. Looking at it from an outside perspective, strangers and travelers could easily assume it to be a holiday. At the very least, a day for a festival, if a modest one. A day that shopkeeps spent all morning preparing for, that all manner of creatures spent days traveling to the city to witness. They'd heard the talk that passed around, the rumors from those still left. But would it work? No one knew for sure, no matter how confident the stories seemed to be. But hope was very quickly becoming all they had left.

They had decorated the whole town. Streamers, banners, wreathes and garland made of autumn flowers, plus whatever the Fairy Godmother had cooked up. Oh, she was just giddy. No skepticism could be spoken around her, not if you wanted to escape the wrath of her wand! Rumor had it that she had caught wind of a few piglets squealing about the likelihood that their magic would fail, and that they were subsequently transformed into the band of musicians who could be found performing in the park.

Well, at least the music was festive.

Of course, the decorations weren't for the newcomers alone. Autumn was coming to a close in just a few weeks, and Old Man Winter would take the reigns like he did every year, and their weather would turn cold and harsh. The chill was already there, cool and biting when the wind picked up speed. Lady Autumn was much preferred to the citizens of the city with her gentle nature, even if she failed to show up, finishing her work in the orchards instead. That was what they liked about her.

It was mid-morning when Father Time was found outside of his tower, checking one of the numerous pocket watches he kept on his person. "Unnecessary, but comfortable," he called them, and closed the watch again. It was twelve o'clock in the afternoon, and where empty space had been just seconds before, now they were. Sitting on benches, lying in flower patches, scattered about the city and outside of the gates in peaceful slumber. They would awaken to the bells of the clock tower. Some, to many friendly and relieved faces all around them, some to grateful ones carrying gifts of food and clothing and magic, and some to fearful, cautious faces. Regardless of how the town treated them, they would awaken to a celebration of their arrival, and choices to be made, and the books. Each and every one. ]

My...blessed mother taught me a few things. [Mainly how to use a staff to heal small cuts and he barely remembered how to do that after things went south and things happened and cough.] I mean, if there's someone else who's a mage we should probably let them handle it. Dark powers course through my blood and it probably wouldn't be safe for me to unleash my powers lest I topple others when my uncontrollable bloodlust takes control and I lash out!

[And he sounds very sincere right now. Hamming it up a little. Vague, slight poses of a dire sort, although not quite skipping the line over to outright waving of his sword or anything. Mainly because he can't go in the other direction for various reasons. Even if he still wasn't entirely sure if she was crazy or not she needed hope! Of...some kind.

...

...gods, let there be a distraction...]

Probably. But yeah, we should ask other people for help instead of doing it ourselves. I dub this Code Abscondation Darkfury!...unless you've got a better name.

[ Dick considers that. ]

Oh. But you knew a name to call me that's... That sort of makes sense. [ He motions to the bow in his hand. ] Considering. And that's somebody some of whose story is known.

Or is it supposed to be different here?

Though, thanks, I will be looking for such people.

[ Having specific information is helping, making his mind kick up a notch. ]

... oh, man, does that mean that somebody could be here as, um, Venus? That'd be weird.

[ Dick looks for Father Time, once he has a slightly better idea about what questions to ask - and when the panic has calmed down, some. Fear is never a good adviser. ]

[ It takes him a while, but he finally sees the old man feeding the ducks. The way he's not at all confused by what is happening, and even his excitement seems to be... well, less than most of the local residents. So he shrugs. No harm in asking, is there? He does take off the glasses, though, it seems sort of right. ]

Excuse me, sir. Are you Father Time?
gardienne: (shy smile)

[She waves his concerns away.] My brother worries for nothing and nobody, Sir. Not even when my Mama turned him out to fend for himself. He will like flying. I think I would as well. It seems nice to be able to touch the stars I can only see.

[She looks hopefully at Father Time. Maybe he can tell her how she might fly. But to his suggestion, she shakes her head.]

An inn? But would they allow a woman such as I inside? [She had money, though. And, if she could slip away with his cloak, she would have the other money too... but no. No, it was his. This kindly old man's, and she could not take any more than she had already done.]
gardienne: (smile)

[She gasps, and it's all she can do to prevent herself from throwing her arms around this big stranger.]

Do you truly mean it? Monsieur, on my life, when it is that you need a favour, or a message taking, or... - well... I will do it for you. Or matches. I think I am to be a match girl here, but I don't want to do that. There is no money in matches and I would rather not sleep outside, you know?

[Carefully, she takes a biscuit, holds it to her nose and inhales. And, slowly, slowly, she sticks her tongue out to lick it, before biting a little off. Her whole dirty face lights up, and she sprays crumbs as she speaks.]

Oh, it is how I imagined it would taste. And sugar! There is surely sugar in it! You know, I had biscuits when I was little, but for years and years, not a single one. Not a fresh one. Perhaps, when someone threw a bit away... but they go soggy when they are left in the rain. I used to drive myself mad outside the bakeries, smelling them. I used to say, 'Now Eponine, sit here and someone will give you one, just to make you go away.' But they didn't, and now you, in just five minutes, have given me a whole barrel of them. It is truly magic.

Well, the city itself is called Märchenstraße, but I'd say you're looking for a better answer than that. You'll have to come with me if we're going to talk. I'm behind on my errands.

[ If he could lean any farther away from Hibiscus he'd probably end up snapping a bone, but he doesn't try to hurt her. He just looks like he'd prefer ten extra feet of distance between them. He makes a mental note to ask what the hell a Serperior is supposed to be, once he's out from under this pig. ]

Go for it.

[ The question? The question just sets Dick's teeth on edge, and his hand tightens a bit around the bow. ]

Probably, though I doubt you will. I mean, I seriously doubt I'm the first one to ask you to get us back home.

[ But it doesn't hurt to mention it, right? Just in case. ]

I was told that you might be able to answer questions, at least?

( Father Time ... all right then. How do you address him though? )

Mm, no need to apologize. It's very nice to meet you either way.

I'm Peter Pan. [Gavroche shrugs, because frankly he's just going along with things to make it easier. Poor girl seemed all sad about it when she explained it to him. Also, this girl talks a lot. Which isn't a bad thing, he's just noting] And, erm, ... thanks?

[He made his way down the steps and felt a sort of calm when he was standing on the grass. He remembered that Beast loved his garden, but most of all, he adored his roses which were the only thing he had left 'in the world' before the merchant father took one as a gift for Beauty.]

[As she went to look around, he wandered, inspecting other blooms before a force of habit inspired him to pick a few. A little blue, a little purple, and some white... most of these flowers, he'd never even seen before! But one such bloom had a fat little bee filling her pollen baskets, and after the smallest brush of a finger against the fuzzy form, she decided it was time to move on to the next cluster.]

Beast's got a helluva gardener or somethin'...!

[She frowns, shakes her head and pulls out one red and white sphere.]

I know I didn't lose them, but I'm supposed to have more of these. A trainer's allowed to carry six Pokémon at a time with these, but I only have one for Hibiscus.

I'm supposed to have more with the rest of my team. I could show you other examples with them, but I don't know where they went to!

Ready Hibi? On three. One, two...

[The three never came, but both human and Pokemon shove into the pig as best they can. A part of Mei worries that they might hurt him, but if they can just lift him just a few inches off the ground, that would be enough.

It's up to the Replica now to get his foot out.]

Argh! Tepiggy, you need to go on a diet!

[Father Time? An odd name, and an odd place to live in, but she's not about to judge too much.]

Ah, it's nice to meet you!

[She would normally try and introduce herself, but she might end up just being called Alice by this man. It probably would just be safe to not mention her real name.

Hibiscus does think that this is odd, and glances at her trainer curiously though. Why are you acting weird, girl?]

[Speaking about roses, Naoto had found them. She stepped closer, raising a hand to touch leaves, petals, and even thorny stems. She went around the thorns and back to the flowers. This... it didn't feel entirely natural to her. As the castle was enchanted, maybe the garden was as well. There was no way all these flowers could be so vibrant.]

[She flinched slightly when she pricked herself on accident and pulled her finger back to inspect. She should have been paying more attention. Still, upon inspection, there was a bead of blood falling away and little more. She could've sworn she saw a green flicker there.]

[He gives a sigh, conflicted by all of this. He motions for her to follow him though, turning away and heading back in the direction he came from.]

Not sure if we'll find her or not, but it doesn't hurt to look.

They call me the Soldier.

[He holds up his book to show the binding which is embossed with that very word as well.]

They're all blank.
subdueme: (why are you here?)

[personal profile] subdueme 2013-12-12 08:10 pm (UTC)(link)
[He is looking for a better answer. Or any answer. And so he'd be more than happy to accompany you on your errands.]

Gladly. I'm appreciative of any information you can provide.

[Speaking of information.]

I don't really need to stay there do I?

[He indicates the monstrosity of a home the locals were trying to claim as his own.]

From my lusus, where the fuck else do you think I got schoolfeeding from? Are your auricular sponge clots defective or something? You know, your lusus! Your... don't you humans have your adult guardians as your custodians?
